IT and Learning Resources
The IT and Learning Resources department at Ashton Sixth Form College provides all students with a range of services and facilities to support and enhance your learning experience.
We have over 13,000 printed and electronic resources covering all subject areas, access to drop-in PCs and a range of study environments.
As well as books and e-books we have a wide range of online subscription resources to assist with your studies. Access to our collection is through Discover, our library portal. This can be accessed via the student VLE.
We provide colour printing, scanning and photocopying facilities.
We have sites across the college with experienced and friendly staff who will be happy to help with your enquiries.
The Library (GH2.5)
This is where you can find all of our physical resources including books, journals and equipment. There are also 14 drop-in PCs and 5 quick access PCs. HE students can also use the classroom at the back (GH2.8) as a quiet study space; please see library staff for access during opening hours.

Learning Commons (MB)
A flexible learning space with 16 drop-in PCs, 4 quick access PCs, 20 laptops for loan and areas for group and individual study. You will also find the Higher Education Study (Pembroke Suite) at the back of this room.

On Wednesday and Thursday evenings, and between 8.30am - 4.30pm during each half term IT staff will be available to assist in the Learning Commons and Pembroke suite, they can be located in room 2.19 of the main building.
Christmas holiday - open until 12pm Fri 23rd December and then closed until 4th Jan. Closed bank holidays and inset days.
Also, please note that opening times are subject to change over the holidays due to essential maintenance, so please phone college reception before your visit to check the room you want to use is accessible.
Science and Technology Learning Zone (ST1.1)
In this room you will find 24 laptops for loan and tables for group or individual study.
Opening times: Mon-Fri, 8.15am - 4pm. Closed during holidays and exam periods.
In addition to the college PCs and laptops, students are welcome to bring in their own devices and will be able to connect to the college network using the college Wi-Fi. Instructions on how to connect to the Wi-Fi are here. Please note Wi-Fi is to be used for study purposes and internet access whilst using college Wi-Fi is subject to our regular firewall restriction; therefore some sites may be blocked i.e. gambling, chat rooms etc. Charging facilities are available in all the learning centres for mobile devices.
Students are able to download a free copy of Microsoft Office using their college email account, for instructions click here.
You will receive £20 worth of free print credits each term (more for art students); if you need more you can buy them from the Library or Learning Commons. For more information on how to print, scan and photocopy, click here.
To access College files and folders from home please use the Remote Desktop Service (link can be found on the left-hand side of the page).

Password resets can also be done by library staff in any of the learning centres.
