Supporting Our Students

We know that every student has different needs and will, during their time at the College, have times when they need additional support. Personalising your learning experience whilst at Ashton Sixth Form College is a key part of who we are.

Equality & Diversity

To ensure your son or daughter has the best experience at Ashton Sixth Form College, we aim to offer equality of opportunity to all of our students in terms of both access to, and the teaching of, the curriculum. All of our students are encouraged to achieve their potential, and to recognise and respect the worth of all individuals irrespective of gender, race, religion/belief, age, disability and sexual orientation. Our students are all educated to practise tolerance and develop their understanding of all groups in society during their time with us. Pastoral Support

Personal Tutors

When your son or daughter enrols at Ashton Sixth Form College, they will be given a personal tutor. Each Personal Tutor has a dedicated and specialist role to provide the best, and most up-to-date information and guidance, as well as a wealth of experience in dealing with all sorts of external and community agencies.

Counselling

Our committed, full-time counsellor is available to listen and provide a confidential service to help students with personal and emotional problems that are preventing them from getting the most out of college.

Chaplaincy

Our chaplaincy is for people of all faiths and none. We have purpose built facilities to enable students to practice their faith whilst at college or to simply have some quiet, reflective space. The chaplaincy and the Peace Garden were designed by our students to ensure that they are appropriate for everyone whether they wish to pray, light a candle, read a leaflet or simply go somewhere to catch your breath.

Support for Learning

XL

We specialise in achieving the very best for all of our students, and we are pleased to welcome the most academically able to become part of our XL provision. Our XL programme is designed to ensure your son or daughter feels stretched, challenged and fulfilled by their college experience. With access to an unrivalled range of enrichment opportunities including mock Oxbridge interviews and a two day XL summer school, our XL students will be fully equipped to compete successfully in any field they choose.

The Learning Commons

We have invested in a brand new learning commons, an educational space for our students to engage in group and independent study. The Learning Commons is more of a shared space for information technology rather than a classic library setting and is equipped with individual and group work pods, computers and laptop loans.

Additional Learning Support

Our Additional Learning Support team have experienced, professional staff dedicated to providing specialist support for students with specific learning needs or making sure that the college is accessible for learners with mobility impairments or medical conditions.

Guidance

Careers Service

Being a young person today is tough and there are a lot of decisions to think about and make. To help your son or daughter through this intense period, we have two dedicated and fully trained Careers Advisers within college, as well as a Careers Adviser from Positive Steps, so we can provide as much individual help and support as our students need to figure out their future.

Financial Support

College Bursary

Our 16-19 Bursary fund can help our 16-19 year old students where they may struggle financially. We have two bursaries available which can range from £30 to £15 per week dependent on a student’s financial situation. More information on bursaries can be found on our website along with application forms and information packs.
