Investing in Our Student's Future
There is much more to life at Ashton Sixth Form College than just getting qualifications. We want our students to achieve their full potential and flourish both academically and personally. We encourage our students to get involved and complement their studies by taking advantage of the many enrichment activities available to them.
The lovely students you and your son or daughter may have met at one of our open events are our wonderful student ambassadors. Students can decide to become a course ambassador or a college ambassador and in doing so gain valuable insight into event management as well as developing their confidence and communication skills. Becoming a student ambassador is just one of the many opportunities we offer outside of the classroom.
Duke of Edinburgh
We offer all students the opportunity to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, even if they have not yet completed their Bronze or Silver Awards. There are three main components of the Gold Award; Volunteering, Skills and Physical. The award will help students to develop highly sought after skills by universities and employers as well as gives them a bit of fun outside of the normal college routine.
We want to encourage our students to think about life beyond college and inspire them to aim high. Our Raising Aspirations programmes are open to all students and aim to introduce what it is like to study a particular subject at university through a programme of taster lectures and seminars delivered by university academics. The programme lets students explore the subject they are interested in at greater depth, experience learning in a university environment, find out more about higher education courses, and strengthen their university applications.
We have a variety of societies for our student to join when they begin college. These range from the Japanese Cultures and Languages Society to the College Band and are designed to help students meet likeminded people and develop their team working skills, communication and specialist knowledge.
Each subject area has their own academic enrichment that students will participate in throughout the year. Trips, visits and guest talks are just some of the extra activities students will experience during their completion of their courses.
Health, Fitness and Sport
Whether your son or daughter wants to try a new fitness activity or continue playing competitively, our range of sport opportunities will help them develop new skills and meet new friends. We have sports ranging from the classic football and netball, to table tennis or a couch to 5k programme for our running beginners.
Courses (skills workshops)
Our range of extra-curricular courses give our students the opportunity to gain extra qualifications such as First Aid, British Sign Language or Life Drawing. Our courses take place over a set number of weeks and students will gain a certification of the course completion.
Our Young Enterprise programmes are designed to stimulate the young entrepreneurs mind and give them hands on experience in setting up and running their own business.
Staff and students at Ashton Sixth Form College have been celebrating after being rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted. The inspection, which took place in March 2016, found that the college has maintained its high standards since it was last rated as ‘Good’ in 2011.
Art and Design students from all courses visited the Manchester Metropolitan University degree show yesterday. By attending the Degree Show, students were able to explore some of the creations on offer at degree level standard, taking inspiration to progress in their own work as they leave to excel in creative careers.
