Ashton Sixth Form College is the highest performing college in the area. With a proven track record of success, the college has recently topped the Department for Education league tables for A-Level and Vocational performance in Tameside as well as achieving the highest Ofsted rating in the area. Students this year have also achieved the highest grades ever with success seen across all courses.

Record breaking results in 2017: A record 80% of students achieved A*, A and B grades or equivalent.

The college has achieved its best set of results ever in 2017 with more students than ever achieving top grades, well above the national average and 67 AS, A-Level and vocational courses at the college achieved stunning 100% pass rates. 

At A level:

  • 99.5% pass rate overall (1.6% above national benchmark)
  • 30 courses achieved 100% pass rate
  • 57% of students achieved high grades (A*-B), improving on last year by 14% (above the national benchmark)
  • 85% of students achieved A* - C, an outstanding 11% increase
  • A record number of students achieved the highest grade possible (A*) increasing by 2% on last year
  • 30 courses achieved 100% pass rate

The Principal noted, "The significant improvement in results across the board is a fantastic end to the year. To see improvements of over 10% is an amazing achievement.”

Vocational performance continued to be outstanding in all areas:

  • 100% pass rate for all vocational courses
  • 9 out of 10 Vocational students achieved the highest Distinction grade (D*)
  • Outstanding progression to higher education, apprenticeships and employment

We are the top college in the area for A-Level and Vocational performance

Each year the Government releases their official national performance tables for schools and colleges – the results for 2015/16 put Ashton Sixth Form College top in Tameside for both A-Level and Vocational performance. Not only do we have the largest number of students taking and completing A-Levels but they then outperform students who are studying at other institutions in the borough achieving on average one grade higher at on A-Level and Vocational courses. 2016/17 results will be released in January 2018.

What this means?
Ashton Sixth Form College students have significantly outperformed the other major providers in the borough, achieving one grade higher on average, on both vocational and A-Level courses.

Best Ofsted rating in the borough

The college was inspected in March 2016 and Ofsted found that the college has maintained its high standards since it was last rated as ‘Good’ in 2011, awarding the college with a Good rating across all areas. This is the best rating of any post-16 provider in the area. 

In the summary of key findings, the inspectors commented that “governors, leaders and staff have high expectations and ambitions for learners and successfully raise learners’ aspirations. Learners experience a strongly inclusive ethos in the college which recognises and celebrates the achievement of all”.

This inspection confirms Ashton Sixth Form College’s position as the best provider of post 16 education in the borough, being the only provider to achieve an Ofsted rating of ‘Good’. It was noted in the report that “most of the students at Ashton Sixth Form College achieve well and a high proportion exceed their target grades.

We are an award winning college for college/school partnerships

We have been recognised for the outstanding partnerships that we have with schools in the borough and the exceptional support that we give to ensure smooth transition for pupils from school to college. Our recent Association of Colleges Beacon Award win acknowledges the work of the A+ Trust, set up by the college and six partner schools in Tameside to raise attainment, aspiration and achievement and has been a key model of improvement for the local area.
