Through theory and practice you will explore anatomy of the body, fitness training and health. You will gain an overview of the professional sports industry through placements, providing you with the knowledge to progress directly to higher education or employment and a career in sport.
BTEC Sport (development, coaching and fitness) focusses on all aspects of sport from science related topics such as exercise physiology right through to nutrition and coaching. This course is designed to give you an all-round experience of the sport sector.
Work placements are a compulsory part of this course and we try to offer placements in a variety of different sectors. Students have been placed in schools, coaching at FC United and as Personal Trainers.
Anatomy and Physiology
You will explore how the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular and respiratory systems function and the fundamentals of the energy systems.
Fitness Training and Programming
You will explore client screening and lifestyle assessment, fitness training methods and fitness programming to support improvements in a client’s health and wellbeing.
Leadership in Sport
You will study what makes a good leader, the different capacities of this role, and the leadership skills and techniques necessary when leading activities in different roles.
You will gain an understanding of the requirements of fitness testing and learn how to safely conduct a range of fitness tests for different components of fitness.
This unit covers the psychological dimensions of sport, and introduces psychological techniques that can be used to enhance performance.
