Homestay Accommodation & Guardianship

Homestay is where an overseas student lives with a British family (host family) as his/her accommodation during his/her time at the College. You can apply for our Homestay Accommodation after you confirm a place of study at the College. Our host families are located around our College with good public transport links to the College or within walking distance. Our host families are thoroughly checked and carefully selected and they all provide a warm, safe and friendly environment to overseas students.

Our International Team works hard in matching students and hosts. We believe that you will get along well and have a great experience with your host family during your stay. They will treat you as a member of the family, share British culture and traditions with you, help you practice your spoken English and give you advice on College life. The experience that you gain with your host family will make your overseas study more worthwhile.

According to UK Law, international students who are under the age of 18 must have a guardian based in the UK, if their parents live outside of the UK. If you are under the age of 18, we will ask you for the details of your UK based guardian prior to your arrival in the UK. Your family members, relatives or friends who are over 18 years old and living in the UK could be your UK guardian. If you do not have a UK based adult guardian, you will be required to apply for a Guardianship programme. Your guardian will act on behalf of your parents as required. You and your parents are supplied with information about options for guardianship service which is provided by third-party guardianship agents. Your host family will be informed who your guardianship contact is.

Generally, a guardianship agent may provide the following:

  • To arrange transfers between airport and homestay (unless the College service being used)
  • To help you enrol onto the courses, liaise with the school and attend parents’ evenings and events
  • To help with travel arrangement and transport
  • To help with passport and visa issues
  • To give advice to you on subjects and university selection (as well as the College’s advice services)
  • 24 hour emergency contact

Your guardian will need to share the responsibilities with your parents. There will be an agreed contract of services between your parent(s) and the guardian / guardianship agent. As an international child student, you and your parents will benefit from guardianship.
