Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning (Teaching Assistants)

Classes will run on a Wednesday evening from 6pm - 8.30pm and will run from January 2025 to June 2025.
This qualification equips learners with the essential knowledge required for working directly with children and young people in school or college settings. It covers key areas such as child and young person development, safeguarding, and effective communication and professional relationships.
All students must be working or volunteering in a classroom setting as you will be supported and assessed in your workplace.
Who is this course for?
Anybody who is working in a role that Support pupil's learning including teaching assistants, learning support assistants, and special educational needs assistants. The certificate is shorter than the diploma due to having fewer units, allowing you to complete the qualification in less time while still providing a pathway to Level 4 or other higher education programmes.
Why should you join this course?
The college also offers a Foundation Degree in Education (Teaching Assistants) and a Foundation Degree in Early Childhood Studies. These are 2-year programmes delivered at the College part time. On completion of a Foundation Degree, it is possible to then "top up' to gain a full BA (Hons) degree. Progression opportunities very much depend on what other qualifications you have.
A Level 3 qualification is highly valued by many employers, enhancing your opportunities for career advancement or securing a new role. Additionally, you'll gain essential knowledge in areas such as safeguarding and behavior management, equipping you with the skills needed to excel in your position.
Course Length
Six months (January-June)
Wednesday evening, 6.00pm - 8.30pm.
Support in the workplace
A designated key person/s from the school is useful to support you by providing policies, guidance on work practices, opportunities to experience a range of activities, to complete witness testimonies and to confirm your competency during general duties in the setting.
How will you be assessed?
You will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This could include direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task set by your tutor.
Entry requirements
-It is recommended, but not a requirement, that you hold or are working towards a Functional Skills qualification at level 2 or a GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and maths.
-It is recommended that you hold a Level 2 in Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools qualification.
You must be in employment (paid or voluntary) in a school for a minimum of 1 full day per week, working in a classroom setting with children aged 5 and above. (Any day of your choice)
-It is recommended that you have a minimum of 6 weeks experience in a School setting prior to starting the course.
Cost
The course cost is £2200, however, you may be eligible to apply for an advanced learner loan if you are age 19 and over and if it's your first full Level 3 qualification.

This is your first Level 3 qualification (which equates to two or more A-levels, four or more AS levels or BTEC/NVQ level 3 or Access to HE qualification)
If you have an existing Level 3 qualification you can enrol onto a second Level 3 in a different learning area.
If you're aged between 19-23 and live in Greater Manchester, the course may be free if:
This is your first Level 3 qualification (which equates to two or more A Levels, four or more AS levels, or BTEC/NVQ level 3 or an Access to HE qualification).
Advanced Learner Loans may be available if none of the above applies.
