12 Ashton Sixth Form College students with Arts Emergency Mentors
12 Ashton students have been matched with Arts Emergency Mentors from across Greater Manchester. Arts Emergency “is an award-winning mentoring charity” that supports students from underrepresented backgrounds wanting to get into the creative sector.
The mentoring scheme supports Year 12 and 13 students aspiring to various careers in the arts industry and helps to develop their professional networks. This year, students have been matched to mentors with experience in a variety of roles including: Composer & Theatre Music Director, Freelance Writer, Radio Reporter, Cultural and Creative Producer, Theatre Writer & Performer, Marketing and Communications Consultant, TV Writer and many more.
“It is a fantastic experience for students as not only do they develop valuable transferable skills for the future, but the scheme builds their confidence and independence. Mentoring allows our students to gain an insight into a career they want to explore further and potentially find other opportunities they did not know existed. Speaking with other students from previous years, Arts Emergency has enabled them to gain top tips and practice for interviews, visit exhibitions and shows, undertake work experience and more.”
Alex Noble, Realising Aspirations Coordinator.
Ashton Sixth Form College has collaborated with Arts Emergency for many years and looks forward to continuing to work closely with the scheme.
