Pembroke Scholars 2024
Pembroke Scholars launched in 2024 aiming to challenge pupils to think beyond the curriculum, raise academic resilience and curiosity and demystify Oxbridge preconceptions.
35 Ashton students joined Pembroke Scholars. Students on the programme participate in a variety of academic activities including essay writing workshops, the Dr Claus Essay Competition, Twilight Talks with Oxford academics and visits to Pembroke College, Oxford.
Elena, who participated on the programme stated:
“Throughout my time at Pembroke Scholars, I thoroughly enjoyed each activity, from the challenging Dr Claus essay to the wonderful visit to Pembroke College. My favourite activity of the year was definitely the visit to Pembroke College, during the University of Oxford's open day. After an Admissions Talk presented by Dr Claus, Morgan handed out all of our certificates, the certificates were all so beautifully designed, and finally, we were directed into Pembroke's dining hall, where we all ate lunch collectively. I may have gone into a lot of depth about the final activity of Pembroke Scholars, however, all of the activities throughout 2024 where all amazing. Overall, I would like to give a very big thank you to Morgan Lewis, Dr Peter Claus and Alex Noble for granting me with this opportunity and I would definitely recommend this program to all Year 12s who want to get to know more about the University of Oxford.”
“Access programmes like Pembroke Scholars are a fantastic way for students to meet new people and really engage with subjects they are passionate about, outside of the curriculum. Pembroke Scholars has close links with OxNet – not only does the course academically stretch students, but all the opportunities provided really do help students to be critical thinkers, independent learners and build confidence.”
