Course Description

The UK video games sector is the largest in Europe. The sector sustains highly skilled, graduate employment. A typical games development studio will have 80 per cent of staff qualified to degree level or above and many studios provide on-going training.

Some of the best performing games’ IP globally is generated in the UK. Notable examples include the Grand Theft Auto franchise, developed by Rockstar. Other UK studios have produced major games franchises such as Batman and Lego, as well as individual world-class titles such as RuneScape (developed by Jagex) and the Sniper Elite series (developed by Rebellion).

This qualification provides a technical introduction to digital games production including engine scripting, 3D modelling and environment and games testing. Modules on this course allow you opportunities to showcase your skills through practical assessments, developing your abilities to design and create game content, create gameplay mechanics systems and immersive worlds. This course is a well-rounded qualification that sits nicely with other subjects, appealing to employers and universities.

Learners will study two mandatory units:

  • Unit 3: Digital Media Skills
  • Unit 13: Digital Games Production

This qualification also requires the completion of 3 optional units

  • Unit 34: Game Engine Scripting
  • Unit 40: 3D Modelling
  • Unit 41: 3D Environments

You will develop specific technical skills in the use of Unreal Engine and Autodesk’s Maya as well as develop your skills in Adobe Photoshop.

You will research, design and implement ideas for game ideas and evaluate how well these engage your audience.

1 External Unit 3 exam (120GLH)

3 Internal units (240GLH)

Maya & Unreal workshops are extremely well attended by students looking to develop external projects to build their show reel of work in order to prepare for employment or Higher Education.

TT games have worked closely with our students on mock presentations and idea development workshops

We have at least one team in the British eSports Overwatch 2 league.
