Media Broadcast and Production

Course Description

The media is now one of the most prevalent aspects of our society. On this course you will gain an understanding of its importance and relevance, as well as a greater understanding of its many forms and depth.

During this course,you will learn the core knowledge and skills that are needed for entry to a range of media, broadcast and production roles. You will then put these into practice in your work experience placement.

T Level students will develop technical and practical skills from the beginning of the course, while becoming familiar with the workplace practices that are essential to safe and effective media, broadcast and production activities.

The course will cover content such as:

Generating ideas

Communicating ideas

Working collaboratively with others

Project Management

Production Skills

Post Production Skills

Editing productions using specialised software to create complete products for an intended audience

The course consists of the following modules;

Core Paper 1   Written examination 2.5 hours

Continued professional development

 

Core Paper 2  Written examination 2.5 hours

Topics covered are:

The creative economy

Audience

Legislation/regulation

Research skills

Project methodology and administration

 

Employer set project Examined Module

You will be given a scenario by a media company and must plan, film and edit to their brief.

 

Occupational Specialism Module

In this project you will: Generate ideas for content development for different platforms, then film and edit multiple pieces of media content.

 

Industry Placement Module

You will complete at least 315 hours/45 Days at a media company

 

 

 The Media T Level will help you to develop valuable transferable skills such as critical thinking, analysis, research, planning, skills of enquiry and evaluation, practical skills, creativity, time management, essay writing skills and more.

You will then apply what you have learned through the production of your own media texts, exploring and creating media forms such as music videos, film, television, social media content and marketing.

Your practical skills will be further developed through a 45 day placement with a Media company.

 

There were 2.4m filled jobs in the UK creative industries in 2022 – a 14.1 per cent rise since 2019. Employment in the screen industries has grown by over 20% since 2009.

Many students go on to University courses such as Media and Communications BA, Media, Film and Television Studies BA & Broadcast Journalism BA

Media Industry Placement

Porfolio development enrichment will support learners in their applications to creative courses.

Short film workshops

Talks and Visits to industry specialists such as Jo Spence from Into Film and a visit to Coolbox a video production company in Manchester.

Students are also supported to apply for the British Film Industry Residential programme which is a variety of courses for 16 to 19-year-olds to develop skills and build a career in the film industry.
