Work Placements

Students at Ashton Sixth Form College have the opportunity to take part in work placements as part of their study programme.

Those studying full-time vocational courses attend work placements as a required component of their programme. At Ashton Sixth Form College our team of Work Placement Co-ordinators secure exciting, innovative and challenging placements across the local area and Manchester. Each placement is chosen to provide students with incredible opportunities to experience working life. The Work Placement Co-ordinators are constantly reviewing and expanding our network of placement providers.

Gaining work experience is a fantastic way to show potential employers or that you have a keen interest in your future career. If you are studying Childcare, Health and Social Care courses then your work placement hours are a compulsory element of your vocational course. Placements encourage you to think independently, problem solve and develop skills in communication, responsibility and time management.

If you are working in regulated activity with children or vulnerable adults the work placement team will assist you applying for an enhanced DBS check which you will need prior to the start of your placement.

Previous placements have included GMP Police, Tameside Council, About Tameside, nurseries and care homes, primary and high schools, Media companies across Manchester including Mad Lab, Pharmacies, Active Tameside, Tameside Radio and more.

Those students who are not studying the listed courses above have the opportunity to take part in Self-Placement Week. Having decided on a particular career focus, students who want or require experience will be able to spend a week out in the world of work. This is a vital opportunity for students who want to progress on to a competitive career pathway or want to try out a particular career they may be interested in.

Previous placements for students have included: GMP Police, Solicitors, Media and Digital Marketing, Children’s Nurseries, Care Homes, Pharmacies, News and Radio stations, Science based companies, Sport Leisure Centres. Accountants, Solicitors and many more.

The Work Placement Team are on hand to help and guide students in securing outstanding opportunities across the area.
