Health and Social Care as part of a mixed study programme includes 75 hrs of work placement across the 2 years.
 
This course will provide you with the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in key areas of health and social care such as sociological and psychological perspectives and human growth and development.   
You will have the opportunity to undertake work placements to prepare you for working in this expanding industry. Being able to apply your knowledge to a real working environment will help to develop your employability skills and confidence.
 

You will study mandatory and core units which will include:

  • Equality, diversity and rights in health and social care
  • Human growth and development

  • Safeguarding in health and social care

  • Communication in health and social care

  • Infection prevention and control in health and social care

  • Psychological perspectives in health and social care

  • Sociological perspectives in health and social care

  • Working in health and social care

  • Reflective practice

Studying this course you will develop:

  • Important vocational skills in communication, health and safety and equality and diversity
  • In-depth knowledge of human growth and development through the life stages
  • Understanding of the anatomy and physiology of human body systems
  • Understanding of the different sociological and psychological approaches that can be used when working in a health and social care setting

  • Research skills to enable you to plan and conduct your own research relating to a health or social care issue and evaluate the success of your outcomes
  • Skills to plan, monitor and reflect on your own professional development while on placement
