LEARNING RESOURCES

We have over 20,000 printed and electronic resources covering all subject areas, access to drop-in PCs and laptops, and a range of study environments. As well as books and eBooks we have a wide range of online subscription resources to assist with your studies. Access to our resources is via our the Library Services, the VLE and Planet eStream.

Learning Facilitators & Learning Resource Assistants

Professional Librarians and Learning Resource Assistants are on hand to help students find and use library resources, evaluate information, and develop their information literacy skills. Learning Facilitators provide bookable one to one support and whole class research and referencing skills sessions for students. The Library actively promotes reading for pleasure to all students via the fantastic fiction collection and annual library promotions and activities such as Reading Ahead.

The Library (GH2.5)

This is where you will find all of our print resources including books and journals. These items can be issued or returned at our self-service kiosk using your student ID card. There are several drop-in PCs and a variety of study areas, including two bookable group study rooms.

Library IT Centre (MB2.15)

A flexible learning space with drop-in desktop PCs and laptops and areas for group and individual study. Charging points are available for phone/tablet/laptop use. You will also find the Higher Education Study Area (Pembroke Suite) at the back of this room.

Learning Zone (ST1.1)

This learning space has laptops and areas for group and individual study. Charging points are also available for phone/tablet/laptop use. Please note that this room is unstaffed and students must swipe the door with their ID card to gain entry. We keep a record of all users and monitor the room using CCTV. Please note, during exams and holidays the Learning Zone will be closed.

IT SERVICES

College PCs and laptops are available at each of the learning zones across College. You are welcome to bring your own device and will be able to connect to the College network via Wi-Fi. Please note Wi-Fi is to be used for study purposes and internet access whilst using College Wi-Fi is subject to our regular firewall restriction, therefore some sites may be blocked.

The IT and Learning Resources offer colour printing, scanning and photocopying facilities. You will receive print credits each term; if you need more you can buy them from the Library or Learning Commons. More information on how to print, scan and photocopy, can be found here.

Students are able to download a free copy of Microsoft Office using their College email account. Instructions are available on the VLE or from the IT Helpdesk in MB2.19.

To access College files and folders from home please use the Remote Desktop service.

Some Learning Centres will be open on selected days during half-term and the Easter holidays. These dates will be advertised nearer the time. Opening times are subject to change over the holidays due to essential maintenance, so please phone College Reception before your visit to check the room you want to use is accessible.
