Torque Cheerleaders at Tameside Lights Switch On

Ashton Sixth Form College dancers recently performed as part of Torque Youth Dance Company for the Tameside Christmas light switch on. The group performed over 3 nights, bringing Christmas cheer to shoppers in Ashton, Stalybridge and Hyde.

Crowds were wowed by live performances from musicians, performers and dancers and there was also a guest appearance from Father Christmas! Dancers from Ashton Sixth Form included Chelsea Lilley, Grace Simpson, Emma Kelly, Catherine Cooper, Sarah Parkinson, Laura Gallagher and Anna Spokes.

A number of Ashton Sixth Form College students who are part of Tameside Tycoons found success as the Tycoon’s scooped 1st place in  the UK Cheerleading Association National Championships 2011. Tameside Tycoons are a community club, started in May 2007 by Jane Murphy Wood and funded by the School Sports Partnership. The club has grown over the years and  recently achieved first place in the Senior Community Nationals.

Ashton Sixth Form College students in the senior squad are Vanessa Murphy Wood, Francesca Kent, Georgia Taylor, Shauna Hayden, Sophie Thompson, Anna Spokes, Samantha Wilson and Megan James. Congratulations to Vanessa Murphy Wood (cheer coach for Primary Tycoons and junior A Tycoons) both teams successfully achieved 3rd place in their competition.
