Oxbridge offers

26 January 2012

Three Ashton Sixth Form College students have received Oxbridge offers:

Jonathan Deakin - has been offered a place to study Maths at Jesus College, Cambridge.

Prakash Mistry - has been offered a place to study Natural Sciences at Homerton College, Cambridge.

Natalie Wood - has been offered a place to study Biological Science at Somerville College, Oxford.

These offers are conditional, the students must achieve A*, A, A grades at A-Level in order to secure their places.

Jonathan, formerly of Trinity Christian School in Stalybridge and currently studying Further Maths, Computing and Physics at Ashton, hopes to enter the world of programming in the future and is currently preparing for the Cambridge entrance exams. Natalie attended Droylsden Academy and hopes to pursue a career in the scientific research field, whilst Prakash, (a former West Hill High School pupil) is aiming for a career as a pharmacist. Both Prakash and Natalie are studying Biology, Chemistry and Maths at A-Level.

The students are part of the Ashton XL Gifted and Talented programme and have been supported throughout their time at college by G&T co-ordinator Ron Norman, who commented; “This is a fantastic achievement for all three students and they are all deserving of a place at these historic institutions. However they still have a way to go, and will need to work hard in order to achieve the required grades”.

The students certainly feel united by their offers and have all been supportive to each other, even going so far as to issue a joint statement;

“We are equally surprised and excited to be offered places at Oxford and Cambridge. But these are conditional places; we will have to work hard to achieve our required grades!”

Ashton Sixth Form College wish all three students the best of luck in their forthcoming exams, keep up the hard work.
