Christmas Lights Switch on

3 December 2014

Ashton Sixth Form College was awash with festive spirit yesterday as the whole college community gathered together for carols around the Christmas tree. Students and staff sang along with the Mossley Hollins Brass Band and the Tree was lit by our special guest in a red coat and white beard!

After a couple more tunes and opportunities for selfies with Santa staff and students enjoyed hot Vimto and mince pies – courtesy of the College Chaplain, Jean Hurlston.

Second year A-level student Humaira Iqbal was lucky enough to have her photograph taken with Santa;

“I don’t celebrate Christamas because I’m Muslim. But it’s really nice to get into the festive spirit. I really enjoyed the Brass Band! It was also a great opportunity to get a #SantaSelfie”

College Chaplain Jean Hurlston commented;
“The lighting of the Christmas tree and inviting Santa is a great opportunity for the whole college community to get together, whether they have a faith or not. Many, many thanks to Mr Beardmore and the Mossley Hollins Brass Band for leading the carols and the real Santa (from Futures United Tameside).”
