Politics students chat with Deputy Leader

7 December 2020

Ashton Sixth Form College students had the opportunity to talk to Angela Rayner during their Politics class on Friday.

Angela Rayner is the current Deputy Leader of the Labour Party and Shadow First Secretary of State. She was the Shadow Secretary of State for Education from 2016-2020 and has been the MP for Ashton-under-Lyne since May 2015.

Students took part in the Hope for the Future workshop and had the opportunity to discuss issues such as Climate change, the build back projects following COVID_19 and what it is like to be a female in politics.

After the workshop, Angela Rayner tweeted:

"It was really great to join you all! Such an impressive group of students I can't wait to see what you guys go on to achieve next..."

This was a fantastic experience for students wishing to pursue a career in politics. Currently studying the subject at A-Level, this opportunity allowed students to ask their own questions and get answers from a member of Parliament who is at the forefront of UK politics every day.
