Guest speaker Dr Helen Gleeson

17 February 2022

Last week, our Applied Science students had a visit from Dr Helen Gleeson from The University of Leeds. Dr Gleeson is a expert in Physics, specifically liquid crystals. Her education was based at The University of Manchester, where she then became the first ever female Physics lecturer in 1989. Dr Gleeson's career continued at Manchester until 2015 where she then moved to The University of Leeds.

The lecture hall was packed with Applied Science students for the talk. The main theme of the talk was materials, including using liquid crystals in the modern world. Dr Helen gave the students an opportunity to ask questions relating to her own academic journey and the ethics behind her developments. The talk was overall really interesting and informative for the students.
