Ashton Sixth Form College makes Christmas donation to food bank

20 December 2022

As Christmas draws closer, the college recently opened a Christmas Pantry, open to staff and students to both donate to and take from.

A huge amount of food and drinks were donated to the pantry. As a college, we are proud to be able to help our staff and students during this time, but also a local food bank. Jean Fitzsimmons from Tameside East Food Bank collected the groceries that were left. This food will be used to feed families in need this Christmas.

Our Inclusive Learning department have also raised £85 for the food bank through selling homemade christmas baubles! This donation will go towards supplementing bags of items distributed to local people over Christmas.

The college has supported Tameside East Food Bank for many years. Our college chaplain, Jean Hurlston has also worked closely with the food bank for years.

We are aware that food banks are not just for Christmas, but a huge thank you to all staff and student who have donated to the Christmas pantry at this special time of year.
