EPQ Poster Presentations 2023

24 March 2023

Students on the EPQ course recently presented their projects to staff, fellow students and parents.

The poster presentation is usually held in Costa, however this year it was moved to our Sports Hall due to 175 students taking the course this year!

The EPQ is an additional qualification that students can take alongside their studies. Students are able to develop their personal interests and create a project around a particular topic. Following the poster presentations, students have found their skills in time management, academic writing, researching and presenting have developed. These skills can be transferred with them throughout their life post college.

A large range of niche and interesting topic areas were explored by students, including:

  • The mental health of serial killers and how it impacted their behaviours
  • To what extent can humour be classed as a coping mechanism
  • The impact of neuroparacites on human behaviour
  • How have black ethnic groups been represented between 1920 and 2020 in film
  • Celebrity worship syndrome
  • Women in STEM
  • An exploration into playwriting presented through a one-woman show

and lots more!

There is a record number of students taking EPQ this year. XL Manager, Damian Windle said:

"This year's EPQ event was the biggest one yet in the College's history with 175 separate presentations taking place, over 500 staff and students attending and 140 parents supporting. The atmosphere was incredible, and I am so proud of all the students for all the hard work and effort they have put in. They have all learnt amazing research skills along the way and this event is the pinnacle of this qualification demonstrating what they are truly capable of - just simply stunning."

Well Done all!
