Jonathan Reynolds MP visits ASFC

4 March 2011

Politicians have recently been flocking to Ashton Sixth Form College to speak to staff and students about the current political and social climate.

The college has recently welcomed Andrew Gwynne and Labour MP for Leigh, Andy Burnham, and on Friday 4 March it was the turn of MP for Stalybridge and Hyde Jonathan Reynolds.

Mr Reynolds met with College Principal Dr Janet Nevin before attending a question and answer session with History and Politics students. The students were well prepared and took the opportunity to ask questions about a number of issues including, voting reform, prisoners’ voting rights, the role of the EU and one final probing question; “Who do you prefer, Blur or Oasis” to which Jonathan immediately replied “oh definitely Oasis”.

“This was a great opportunity for our students. Both the Politics and History groups relished the opportunity to meet Jonathan and asked some great questions.” John Spiller (Politics and History Teacher)
