Visiting artist hosts oil painting workshop

18 October 2018

Fine Art students were joined by visiting artist Ian Johns who ran a workshop with the students across two days.

The Fine Art course at Ashton Sixth Form College develops students' skills and understanding of a range of techniques and mediums. The portfolio component of the course enable students to work creatively and really hone their skills. They have the chance to try out new things and experiment.

Professional artist Ian Johns worked with the students throughout their oil painting workshop. While oil paints are often seen as a trickier medium to work with, in just one full day workshop students work was transformed. Ian encouraged the students to work confidently and to try different techniques. With his wealth of experience in the industry, Ian passed on some of the most invaluable advice.

Throughout the day, students are encouraged to take photos of their work at various stages so they too can see the transformation of their work.
